30 Years of Experience
After earning my MD at The University of Pennsylvania in 1987, Residency at Penn, and Fellowship at Emory University, I spent four years as an academic Cardiologist at The Emory Clinic. I then joined Northside Cardiology and became the Managing Partner and over the next decade, we grew from 3 MDs to 9 MDs before integrating with Northside Hospital. We built a vigorous research program, outreach offices, and full service cardiology including EP, INTV, nuclear, echo. In fact, our group brought radial catheterization and intervention to the Atlanta suburbs before it became the standard. In 2018 I left NSH to re-join Emory Healthcare in a dual position as Chief Quality Officer at Emory St. Joseph's and Cardiologist . Actively Board Certified in Cardiovascular Medicine, and Echocardiography, and have successfully passed Board Certification in Internal Medicine, and in Nuclear Cardiology.
Leadership
I currently serve as Chief Quality Officer of Emory St. Josephs. In addition to being the Managing Partner of NCPC, I served 2 terms as a Councilor on the GA ACC, and 4 years on the local Board of the AHA, culminating as President, Board of Directors, Metro Atlanta- Greater Southeast Affiliate, American Heart Association, 2016-2018. I helped integrate 2 large practices into Northside Heart and served as one of 2 Executive Managing Physicians from inception until 2016. Atlanta cardiologist Dr. Balk
